Atypyk has all things funny AND functional.
These lovely pop up cards are just adorable. Available from Roadside Projects.
Also check out owner Jayme McGowan‘s blog, where she talks about her commissioned work for Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are. I remember reading that book 10 years ago. It was fascinating and will be even more so with pop up images. I also read that Spike Jonze is making a movie based on the book, due out 2009. Can’t wait.
I don’t usually post on a Sunday nor do I post when someone famous passes on. Today is an exception. I’ve just read that Paul Newman passed away. I am a fan of his movies and grew up watching them. He was a genuinely good actor, unlike those we have around today. Who could forget the tortured soul he played in “Cat on a hot tin roof” which I watched again just weeks ago? “Cool Hand Luke”, “The Towering Inferno” and “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” remain favourites. In fact, the latter was one of the first movies I saw when I was little. This is a sad day.
He will be missed.
It’s the first F1 night race ever and Mr B is working at the F1 Paddock Club (next to the pit stop) for 3 consecutive 17 hour days! From a fan’s point of view (me), he’s lucky to be in the thick of the action, the sound of cars zooming in and out of the pit lane, the adrenalin rush……..oh I’d love to be in that situation again but at the same time, he’s a non-fan who is tired and barely getting any sleep. I told him I’d gladly swap places with him, if I knew how to do his job. Sigh. I guess I will be watching the race on tv then.
Go Hamilton! Go Iceman!
I believe my first words when I laid eyes on the Marylin chair from d-vision were “Oh my God”. Isn’t it gorgeous? The colour, the shape…… such a cheery looking chair.
There is also the aptly named The Wall, which is an interactive wall with sensors that changes according to the amount of light it gets. How cool is that?
I also like Small Apple Dish, containing 2 slots, one for the apple and the other for the core, after you’ve eaten it.
I love furniture with clean lines and ample storage area. Piero Lissoni‘s Porro line does just that. Doesn’t this make you want to spend all day in this room? I know Mr B & I would appreciate all that bookshelves space.
Right now, I’m also loving Kings of Leon‘s Sex on Fire from their 4th album, Only by the Night. It’s available for download on iTunes.
I came across these beautiful Lauren Merkin clutches while reading Paper+Cup, a design studio & custom stationery company based in Brooklyn, New York some time ago.
Talk about killing two birds with one stone. I’m a happy camper.
Don’t you just love the colour?
We love games even though I’m not as good at strategic games as Mr B. I think if we owned any of these mind twisting games from Pentago, I’d lose 9 6 out of 10 times. Sigh.
I mentioned Mr P’s collection a few days ago but realised I just had to devote a post to that funny little guy. These are from Propaganda in Thailand. I spent a long time in the shop the last time I was there. They have really cool stuff.
Happy weekend!
